Your first session is an opportunity to get acquainted and discuss what brings you to therapy. Sonya will ask questions to understand your background, current concerns, and goals. There is no pressure — the first session is about building a comfortable, trusting relationship. Treatment recommendations and a plan are developed collaboratively with you.

What is an Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) evaluation and process?
A Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a qualified clinician designated by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to evaluate employees who have violated DOT drug and alcohol testing policies. The SAP recommends treatment or education and determines when an employee is ready to return to a safety-sensitive position.
Is Sonya a Qualified DOT SAP?
Yes. Sonya holds the QSAP (Qualified Substance Abuse Professional) credential in addition to her LCSW-S and LCDC licenses. Her full SAP qualifications are available to view on the SAP Information page of the website.
What is included in the SAP process?
The $550 SAP fee includes:
- Initial evaluation session and written evaluation letter to your referral source or employer
- Update to the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse (if applicable)
- Treatment recommendations or referrals to appropriate resources
- Follow-up session and evaluation letter with a return-to-duty testing schedule
- Clearinghouse status updated to “Ready for Return to Duty”
- Electronic copy of all letters for your records
